When did you start working on the Yeti model?
The project started in the spring of 2004 with the first sketches, designs and concept developments. We presented the brand new idea to the public in the form of a study in Geneva and Frankfurt in 2005.
 |
What was the brief and the design aims at the start of the car’s development? At the beginning was the idea that Škoda Auto should build a simple, practical and youthfully fresh car based on the Fabia model platform. |
|
What was the most difficult task for you, the designers? The initial concept of building a car on the Fabia model platform was changed. To be able to offer all-wheel drive for mass-produced cars, we chose the larger platform of the Octavia model. Bringing the striking, light design from the exhibition studies to a mass-produced car was a big challenge for our design team. The result is the new Škoda Yeti, which has a quite special character, is extraordinarily spacious and equipped with top technology. |
|
What would you especially want to highlight about the Yeti?
First of all, it’s a unique design: the new Škoda Yeti has a stand-out front and headlights. From the side, attention is attracted by the box structure of the body with the robust roof rack, painting of the columns typical of the Škoda brand and high wheel arches underlining the design solution for a rough terrain vehicle. The rear has an original and clear line underlined by the rear lights in the shape of a letter C.
 |
The interior design corresponds to the massiveness, clear segmentation and fine emphasis of the various elements of the robust exterior design through a focus on detail. The design of the seats is completely new and their quality has excellent properties in the long term. Despite its compact dimensions, the new Škoda Yeti offers a fantastic feeling of internal space. The seats can be adjusted to an unusually large extent, the rear seats can easily be taken out of the car. |
The luggage space offers a lot of space for luggage. One special accessory that can be ordered is a panoramic roof, thanks to which you obtain an even greater feeling of airiness and a further improvement of the light inside the car. In addition to the great handling properties on the road, the Škoda Yeti gives an excellent impression when being driven on rough terrain. The excellent overview, large angle for driving on slopes in the front and the back, and new technical solutions make driving on rough terrain a unique experience.
How many designers worked on the team for the Yeti? The Yeti went through the hands of various people from the very beginning. From the initial study until the showcars stage it was designed by the Škoda Auto design team led by Thomas Ingenlath, the implementation of the mass-produced car was then led by Jens Manske. |

How do you personally rate the Yeti’s success on the markets, or rather with customers?
I am sure that, thanks to its excellent properties, the new Škoda Yeti’s path will be very successful!
